Calling all Book Reviewers and Authors

Valid till 31 April. Link

As an author I am always searching for ways to get my book out there and getting reviews.

Each book I have self-published is a constant battle to get the ball rolling. Sometimes I become discouraged because of the lack of response or reviewers dropping me.

The writing business is not kind or fair and to stay positive is not always possible. We spend a great deal of money to write, polish, then publish it and the only validation we have is when readers buy the book and hopefully leave a review.

As a reviewer, I understand the responsibility of being consistent and trustworthy. Because of this I am basically fully booked for this year.

But in my search, I came across this group on Facebook and have started to join the promos and read the case studies provided. You must be a member to read them but worthwhile to do so.

Evan Gow, the owner of the group is a hands-on fellow that really helps authors to become noticed in a world where it is a constant fight for recognition.

Here is one case study I found very useful and there are links for reviewers where you can request a copy and become part of the team.

My newest book, Love at War, is also there. Have a look.

Their enemies tried to outsmart them. Obedience their only defence.
Whisked to picturesque Valletta, a lonely nurse met her soul connection. It set the bar in a stirring plot of spiritual and physical survival as a determined warlord in Africa and a cunning wife in America trapped them. The healing sands of Iraq, their only hope.
Passionate about her work, war-torn South Sudan offered Sonia Main peace. When a man from her past confronted her once more, she had a choice to make. A choice that would influence her life.
Could Sonia let go of the past and see a new future?
Would her dreams continue to haunt her? Or would the warm sun of Africa burn away her fears?
Curt McGee was a man bound by honour and duty. It took him away from home for long periods of time.
Caught in infidelity, Curt's wife’s thinking left him astounded, shocked even. His children prey to an unthinkable enemy.
Would he get beyond his wife's betrayal?
Could he save his children?
What decisions should he make?
Co-workers devised a plan: book a flight to enjoy a weekend in Malta. An island in the Mediterranean Sea that offered tranquillity and peace to weary souls.
Here, two worlds connect, and the result would change them both for eternity.
Meeting by chance, love confronted them, a love so great that they could not deny it. But time played a trick and demanded a price. A price so high that it would strip them of everything before they could experience the joy of a future.
Obedience was better than sacrifice, revealed the pages of the Holy Book. Would they yield or follow their own way?
They could not run or hide from the onslaught. Their enemies' attacks growing in intensity. Crafty tricks added to the confusion, their fears real. It stripped them of their hopes and dreams. They could only go one way.
When Tau Gbadamosi met Sonia, he had a tough time understanding his feelings. War ravished his country. The enormous plight for help too great for one man or one fight. Faced with loyalty, he had to decide. A decision that would cost him. Would he fail the test?
Africa's hopes and dreams burned brightly in the harsh African sun. Poverty and lack the driving force for many ‘do-gooders’. It left the continent in a starving grip. But when a warlord sets his sight on the Red Cross nurse, all hell broke loose. No one could stand in his way.
Only God could stop him.
Lover of my soul
Oh, my Sovereign Lord,
I bless your Holy name.
Your Kingdom is eternal
Your words are priceless as pearls.
Your favour is beyond any riches.
Oh Lord, my Father,
Perfect is your timing.

A Case Study at Story Origin

Posted by Marilyn Pike on the Facebook group by request of Evan Gow, this is an article I wrote about the effectiveness of gaining book reviews through StoryOrigin.
🙂
Very happy with StoryOrigin for gaining both book reviews and newsletter subscribers, I’m writing this article to describe my experience with book reviews. The stats provided below occurred with very little effort on my part. I plan to return to working on gaining more book reviews in the near future. As you can see, so far I’ve been most successful in gaining reviews for the books in my YA Paranormal Mystery / YA Urban Fantasy series.
MY REVIEW COPY STATISTICS:
Mission Critical: Journey to the Red Planet (Science Fiction novelette):
- Review copies requested from readers through StoryOrigin, approved by me: 4.
- Book reviews from those readers: 1. (That reader posted a 5-star review on Goodreads and BookBub.)
The Other (Science Fiction novel):
- Review copies requested from readers through StoryOrigin, approved by me: 5.
- Book reviews from those readers: 0.
Blood and Ashes (Paranormal Romance novel):
- Reviews requested from readers through StoryOrigin, approved by me: 5.
- Book reviews from those readers: 2. (No links were provided to reviews posted online. However, one 3-star review in which the reader said they would read more of my books and one 4-star review were posted on StoryOrigin.)
Shade (Book #1 in YA Paranormal Mystery / YA Urban Fantasy Series):
- Reviews requested from readers through StoryOrigin, approved by me: 43.
- Book reviews from those readers: 18 (ten 5-star reviews, four 4-star reviews, three 3-star reviews, and one 2-star review, with one of the 4-star reviews posted only on StoryOrigin).
Shade and the Skinwalkers (Book #2 in YA Paranormal Mystery / YA Urban Fantasy Series):
- Reviews requested from readers through StoryOrigin, approved by me: 40.
- Book reviews from those readers: 14 (nine 5-star reviews, four 4-star reviews, and one 3-star review, with one of the 4-star reviews posted only on StoryOrigin).
Shade and the Castle by the Sea (Book #3 in YA Paranormal Mystery / YA Urban Fantasy Series):
- Reviews requested from readers through StoryOrigin, approved by me: 31.
- Book reviews from those readers: 10 (six 5-star reviews and four 4-star reviews, with one of the 4-star reviews posted only on StoryOrigin).
Shade and the Pure-Blood Faeries (Book #4 in YA Paranormal Mystery / YA Urban Fantasy Series):
- Reviews requested from readers through StoryOrigin, approved by me: 30.
- Book reviews from those readers: 10 (seven 5-star reviews, one 4-star review, and two 3-star reviews, with the 4-star review posted only on StoryOrigin).
HOW I SENT TRAFFIC TO THE REVIEW PAGES:
The most exciting services offered by StoryOrigin are the multi-author promotions that authors set up for participants to gain book reviews, book sales and newsletter subscribers. So far, I’ve actively participated in 26 of these promotions: 6 for gaining book reviews, 9 for gaining book sales, and 11 for gaining newsletter subscribers. As you can see, I gained 54 book reviews through only 6 promotions on StoryOrigin. After that, I focused more on the promotions designed to gain newsletter subscribers, but I plan to return to book review promotions in the near future. After I sign up for a book promotion, I announce it on my scheduled date in the following places: my newsletter where I have over 8,000 subscribers, on Facebook, Twitter and my Goodreads blog. That’s it. It’s pretty easy. All the authors in a promotion promoting at the same time is what leads to its success. I especially recommend joining promotions run by established authors, especially those who are strict about requiring all participants to share the promotions with their followers.
MY PROCESS FOR VETTING REVIEWERS:
I only accept reviewers who provide links in their StoryOrigin background information to their review pages on at least one of the following: Amazon and other bookstore sites, BookBub, Goodreads, etc. If someone requests a book but hasn’t provided any proof that they post reviews online, I don’t approve them out of caution they may only be looking for free books. I’d also be hesitant to accept anyone who consistently posts negative book reviews, although I’ve never been approached by anyone who does that.
MY FAVORITE PART ABOUT MANAGING MY REVIEW COPIES THROUGH STORY ORIGIN:
It’s so easy! I used to send out hundreds of Advanced Review Copies of my books to ARC teams. That was a LOT of work. On StoryOrigin, I just post my books, then take part in book promotions. This works well, as there are always a lot of book promotions taking place.

Acts is a sequel to the gospel of Luke, written by Luke between 70-90 AD, in Rome. It is a historical narrative of the first-century Christian church from 33 to 60 AD. It is an action-packed, fast-moving, Hollywood-style narrative on the adventures of Peter, Paul and others. You will see how the gospel traveled from Jerusalem to Samaria, Lydda, Joppa, Caesarea Maritima, Damascus, Antioch Syria, Cyprus, Lystra, Iconium, Derbe, Antioch Pisidia, Philippi, Thessalonica, Berea, Athens, Corinth, Ephesus, etc. to Rome. You will see the amazing miracles and hear the amazing sermons and testimonies of Peter and Paul. You will come across many “first” in Acts, e.g. birth of the first-century Christian church, first miracle, first sermon, first Christian martyr, first Christian burial, first Gentile convert, first European Christian convert, Antioch, the city where disciples were first called Christians, etc. You will read about Paul’s first, second, and third missionary journeys, mobbed at Jerusalem, jailed at Caesarea Maritima, shipwrecked at Malta, and jailed in Rome. This is a Christ centred, Holy Spirit-enabled, exciting, life-changing book.

Heroes

They come from all walks of life. Men and women in uniform, standing up to serve their country, banding in an untouchable brotherhood / sisterhood to protect its citizens.

Some will find both glory and pain, some find their purpose in life, but for so many, the war will never truly end.

Join these honorable men and women as we explore their journeys. These stories show what it means for them and their families when they make the brave decision to sign up to serve their country.

Home of the Brave contains stories of soldiers, airmen, marines, and seamen who defend us all from so many things. Most we will never even know about, that’s how incredible they truly are.

All proceeds from this set will be used to help the men, women and families of our Armed Forces.

Logo t-shirts, glasses with frames two sizes too big,
and a hard-core love of music and ice cream.
That’s how I’d describe my best friend, Liam.
Back then, we were inseparable.

I took off to California with my new college boyfriend, Roger,
ready to get away from the dirt and cows in my podunk town
wanting to start a new life with him.

Fired, dumped, and evicted my life was reduced
to a box of cereal without any milk.
Nowhere to go except back home,
where I had left everything and everyone behind.

Athletic build, five o’ clock shadow and that
same of love of salted, caramel ice cream.
That’s how I’d describe Liam, six years later.
Except, he wasn’t my best friend anymore.
