A Book Review The oil apothecary by Porche Berry. A complete introduction to essential oils.

The oil apothecary was born out of a need to organize and convey important safety information about essential oils. A personal experience with safety issues and a child created a learning frenzy that had many people messaging with questions. Answering individual questions takes forever while handing them a book means they can become knowledgable on the topic in their own right. Careful research using a government database, studies, and textbooks such as Robert Tisserand’s book “Essential Oil Safety” was undertaken to ensure the most accurate and complete information would be given. The book has been written so that even a complete novice could understand it while the unique Quick Reference Data Sheet would make it useful even for trained aromatherapists. With 128 individual oil profiles, this is the most complete book on the topic for laypeople.

No specific brands are promoted. Instead, the reader is shown how to navigate the marketplace by learning what to look for in an oil and a company.

Quick Reference Data Sheets for each oil.
These break down the information into 6 sections; 1. The Latin name. 2. The biologically active constituents that are not ubiquitous. For example, water and carbon are excluded because they can be found in every fresh herb. 3. The properties under their technical names. 4. Basic uses, divided by usage type, eg topical vs ingestion. Not an exhaustive list, however. 5. Cautions including drug interactions and other safety info. 6. And any immediate first aid information that may be needed.
Easy to read lists let you know which oils to avoid for seizure disorders, what is safe to use with your pets, and common medical concerns

When other children were still gaping at cartoons, Porche Berry’s TV diet included programs on nutrition. Seeing pharmaceutical drugs fail repeatedly to treat the long-term health problems of family and friends spurred an early interest in natural medicine. That interest deepened after she became the mother to a child who reacted strongly to pharmaceuticals. During research to help her child, Berry discovered that she had a knack for translating technical topics into lay language. She hopes to help people take command of their own health through

5 Stars for this book, well done.

An ARC copy was gifted to me by the author.

This is a very well laid out book. with all the do's and don't needly define to help every person that wants more information about essential oils.

It is easy to understand, even the big words are explained that even a layman like me can find it interesting. Personally, this will be a go-to book when I want to bring or use the knowledge in a plot, especially in my fiction writing.

Each oil is divided into distillation and application, knowing what to use with which ailment. Plus the makeup of each product.
From human beings to animals, this is a very good reference book for all users.

A book I can definitely recommend.

Book Review - Jim's Revenge by Andrew R Williams

An ARC copy was received from the publisher.

This is a slow starter with so many variables that it didn't make sense in the beginning. To be honest, I had my doubts and thought to quite by chapter 4. Nevertheless, I continued and by the last page, I am glad I did.

Jim's Revenge is a witty, cleverly planned plot with so many happening at the same time that you get lost in all the details. With this book, details definitely made the story. Each scene another building block cleverly devised till the end. And the end result was fantastic. Revenge is sweet is a good description for this book and deserves a round of applause.

The dialogue is written in such a way that it pulls you in and keeps your attention. Through it, you really get to know the characters, one by one.

Jim, the main character is a pensioner. To curb the boredom he applied for a job across the street at  Slobend, Fleecem & Skinnem. Without adding some spoilers to the review it definitely is good to know, because it forms the foundation of the plot. The entire plot involves the employees of this company and Jim learned quickly. All I am willing to mention is that practical jokes have a way to catch up to you. Watch out who you play with. Jim might be old but definitely not senile or stupid. After this, you will have to buy the book. Seriously, it will be money well spent.

The supporting characters were a mixture of sweet and sour, with a tangy twist which made it surprisingly witty. From drug barons to the damsel in distress, each character forms part of the plot.
The author's writing style is sharp and to the point which made it easy to follow, as well as fast-paced and enjoyable. Thanks for the book and the interesting reading time.
