Book Review: Book 3 in the Legacy of the Watchers: Masquerade by Nancy Madore. Still a few days left to win your very own copy.

Book 3 of the Legacy of the Watchers series.
THE STAKES GET HIGHER AS A TRAP IS SET.
Nadia is severely shaken by the recent tragedy but, as the Legacy of the Watchers continues, she will turn to BEACON for comfort, immersing herself in plans for an extravagant masquerade ball to raise funds for the disaster victims. But she can’t escape the hidden ones—or the high stakes battle they’re waging behind the scenes. This time Poseidon will be their guide, taking them from the Titan War to the destruction of Atlantis, and leaving Nadia with the hardest decision of her life.

Finding courage she didn’t know she possessed, Nadia strikes up a treacherous bargain that will put her at odds with everyone—especially Will. It’s a deadly game, laced with deception, and Nadia will find that she’s not the only player in this masquerade when part three of the series reaches its shocking conclusion.

Review: Book 1 - The Hidden Ones
Review: Book 2 - Power of Gods

Review: Book 3 - 5 Stars

I received the book from the author for an honest review.
As more questions arise within the book, the more Nadia, and the men in her life, were more determined to find the answers to them. Each time the story delves deeper into the mysteries of the dijnn, their purpose and reasons for living. In book 1, we learned about Lilith, the creation of the Nephilim, and the times before the flood. In book 2, we learned more about the dijnn after the flood and their survival as they tried to build the land once again with the help of humans, taking us to the build of the Temple in Biblical times. In book 3 we learn more about the Greek Mythology, especially the role of Zeus and Poseidon and the ultimate distruction of Atlantis, the Greeks gods and what it has to do with Armageddon. From book 1 - Book 3 the question remained the same: How did Asmodeous plan to stop Armageddon? The way that the author brought all the history known to man together to create this exciting series was truly very creative and unique. I, for one, just loved this whole series.
Nadia, and her team is back, although Will's roll was more at the background, while Nadia, Clive and Gordon tried to find the answers and solutions for the impending disaster. Striking up a bargain with one of thee richest men in the world didn't spell good, and Nadia had to pull all her resources to "win" the day. But, as with every man made plan it backfired and now we must wait for book 4. My word, but Ms. Madore knows how to write!
I really enjoyed the mufti-facet story from beginning to end. Each time we meet a dijnn, I am in wonder about her descriptions of each of these "spirits". Some was heartfelt, and some pure evil. But, at the end they, too, were controlled by the power and greed of human kind doing the will of the one that had the ring.
The never ending love story between Lilith and Asmodeous really touches the heart. Their devotion to each other and the cause the thread that kept everything together.
I must say that I really liked Beth's role as well. She really became a strong character as she, too, try to find the answers to her husband's death.
Really a great series, filled with mystery, the ever present question: is God really out there? Capturing the imagination as you walk through history to discover a world within a world.

Ours “Something drained its battery. Sometimes that happens when a spirit is nearby. Why don’t you try asking Wallace a few questions? Maybe he likes men better than women. After all he only kidnapped, raped and killed little boys. “ There nothing Alan wanted less than to try and communicate with a dead serial killer but he had forced his way in with the group so the least he could do was try in fit in. “He liked little boy’s. I don’t think he’s going to be interested in my type. I’m a little old for his taste.” Rhonda didn’t say anything but continued to stare at him. He finally shrugged. “Why the hell not?” He turned toward the empty room and tried not to feel like a damn fool. It was a good thing none of his deputies could see him talking to a ghost. “If you’re with us, Wallace Webster, you should know the world’s a better place without you in it. You were the lowest form of scrum bag and I think it’s a damn shame you were granted the pleasure of dying of old age in here instead of getting the electric chair like you deserved.” Rhonda elbowed him. “Ask a question and stop antagonizing him.” Alan glared at her. “Fine.” He closed his eyes and tried to think of a good question. “Why did you hurt those innocent children?” All of the K2 meters lit up. Rhonda leaned over and grabbed her backpack. She dug around until she found the recorder. “Ask him something else. “ Alan stood and walked over into the circle of K2 meters. “Why, you Son of a Bitch. Why?” He felt a sharp stinging sensation across the back of his neck before cold air enveloped him. Just as he was reaching back to rub the painful area, a putrid smell filled the air and a voice right next to his ear whispered. “Mine.” Without even thinking, he asked, “Why?” There was a sinister laugh and another sharp painful slash across his neck and then down the full length of his back. He went to step out of the circle until something bumped against the side of his leg. The air around him became soupy and every breath became harder and harder to draw in. When he made another move to leave the circle several things happened at once; it felt as if a large hand gripped onto his shoulder, a breathe of foul air filled his nose and the room became crammed with small black shadows. Another whisper finally answered his question. “My children.” Alan forced his legs to move but he only made it a few steps when the black forms rushed to surround him. It felt as if several pairs of small hands were tugging at his pants’ legs and there were arms wrapping around both of his legs. The air overflowed with agitated murmurings and whispers. Every hair on Alan’s body stood up from the static electricity in the room. He blinked his eyes several times trying to focus on the tiny black shadows which had suddenly appeared out of nowhere. They were all inside of the circle of K2 meters and the lights on the meters were flashing on and off like crazy. The shadows were darker than the room’s darkness. They were completely void of any light and the feelings emanating from them were if they were totally void of any happiness. It wasn’t so much the touching or even the presence of the black shadows that bothered Alan. It was those feelings of pain and anguish that were slowly leaching away his own happiness. He could sense they needed his help and this was the only way they knew how to ask for it. He broke out in a cold sweat, and just as the coldness was beginning to seep into his skin, frantic screaming came from somewhere else in the hospital.

It would also be a shame to let a private hotel room go to waste when it contained such a beautiful sexy woman, so he moved closer and leaned against the wall beside her, letting his breath tickle her neck as he gazed down at her. He lifted a strand of her silky hair and let it sift through his fingers. Her heady scent wafted up to him, making him want to bury himself in her. Was it cherries? Maybe apple blossoms? “My heart almost gave out when your car went up in flames and I saw you thrown back. I was afraid you’d been hurt…or worse.” Her breath caught audibly, and she worried her lower lip with her small, perfect teeth for a moment. Then she gazed up at him with sorrowful eyes. “It must have reminded you of losing your wife.” “Not for a minute. I was worried you were hurt. That I’d lose you.” He traced the line of her jaw with the pad of his thumb and shivered when he felt her tremble. So she wasn’t immune to him. Good. Very good. Her lashes fluttered and her irises grew dark. She shrank against the wall as if unsure what to do next. Then resolution gathered in her eyes. “Oh! Well, uh, I should go. I’m sure I’ve been missed. A manager never rests.” To his dismay, she ducked under his arm and escaped to the door. When she tried to turn the handle, however, it wouldn’t budge. Then she tried to turn the knob with both hands, pulling hard. Her eyes flashed fire. “What the hell? Can you help me? I can’t get out.” “Do you really have to go? Or do you just want to get away from me? Am I that repellant?” She looked as if she’d rather have fire ants crawl up her legs than answer his question. Before she could respond, he jumped in. “I have a confession.” She stopped trying to jar the door and her attention riveted on him, her forehead puckering. “Did you do something I need to know about?” Drawing in a long, shuddering breath, he look heavenwards and crossed his fingers behind his back hoping she wouldn’t throw something at him, hoping she’d be okay with his admission. “I found your blog and read it.” Paling, the blood fled from her flesh and her eyes looked like sooty coals against her face. Her gaze clashed with his and held. “How did you find it? I used a pseudonym and I put it on privacy settings.” He screwed up his lips, and scrubbed his hand over his face, preparing to tell more painful truths. “I’m a bit of a hacker and I like to research the people I’m working with.” Not sure she’d be receptive to his theory, he left out the part that he thought the ghosts led him to her sight. He thought they were closet romantics. He wouldn’t be surprised if they’d locked them into the room now to force them into some alone time together. When a tsunami of emotions flitted across her face he tried to read them. Fury. Embarrassment. Lust? “You investigated me? You read my private musings?” “You wrote about me? In some very intimate ways. At least I presume it was me since you used my name.” He fixed her with a piercing gaze. “Did you?”

One mountain stood off in the distance. Its peak was the highest. It grazed the heavens. It was the closest point that he could get to his love, now in the inky, deep black sky. It seemed it would be the perfect place to make his presence—and his demands—known. The trip up the mountain took a great deal of the night, his strength had waned, but anger and determination pushed him up to the giant boulder, far above, jutting out into the night air. The moon was beyond his reach—so close, yet, so far away. Swift Foot stood on the edge of the rock. A cool breeze greeted him, brushing softly against his cheek. He felt Shining Star had sent the breeze to touch him. “I am here,” he told her softly, looking up into the sky. Then, he took a deep breath, and announced loudly to the Great Spirit, “I have come to speak to you.” The breeze was replaced with a sudden burst of warm air, an acknowledgement of sorts. He took a step forward, feeling the balls of his feet touch the edge of the rock. He was close now. “You will put me there with her or I will die!” The raw emotion caused his voice to crack, but he knew the Great Spirit heard his demand. A lightning bolt cracked from a cloudless sky in front of him, striking the ground below. No whispering voices came to his mind or thundering ones either. It seemed the Great Spirit wasn’t in the mood for negotiations. It wasn’t the response Swift Foot had wished to hear or see. Still, he stood on the rock, while his love watched him from her place in the heavens. That was just as well, Swift Foot decided. He would be with her soon, with or without any help. He would never spend a day without her. Another lightning strike lit up the sky as he lifted his arms out, and fell…

Promotional Tour: Only You by Lorna Peel. Can the “Badly-blond Bloke” convice her to lay down her fears?

Blurb:

Jane Hollinger is the wrong side of thirty, divorced and struggling to pay the mortgage her cheating ex left her with. As a qualified genealogist, teaching family history evening classes is a way for her to make ends meet. But she begins to wonder if it’s such a good idea when a late enroller for the class is a little... odd. “Badly-blond Bloke” both scares and intrigues Jane, and when she discovers he is her all-time favourite actor and huge crush, Robert Armstrong, she’s stunned. Even more stunning to Jane is the fact that Robert is interested in her romantically. He’s everything she ever dreamed of, and more, but can she overcome her fear of living in the public eye to be with the man she loves?

Excerpt:

Jane glanced at her watch. It was half past nine. She’d stayed late after this week’s class to work on a PowerPoint presentation. Now it was a bit too late for her to join her students at the pub.
She pulled the large bunch of keys from her bag and turned off the light as she left the room. After locking the door, she walked to the centre’s main entrance and began to punch the security code into the alarm system’s keypad. She stopped when a door banged shut some distance behind her, nearly jumping out of her skin when a figure left the Gents toilets and made a slow approach. She fumbled in her bag for her personal alarm.
“Stop!” she held the alarm in front of her defensively.
The man raised both hands in the air as if at gunpoint, dropping his notebook.
She was quick to inform him, “I can set both alarms off right now, you know?”
“I know, but I’m in your family history class and I just want to go home. If it’s all right with you?”
“Walk forward three paces.”
He complied, halting under a flickering strip light. It was the badly-blond bloke.
“Look,” he told her, sounding tired, defeated. “I’ve been wearing contact lenses all day and my eyes are killing me. So, the last thing I need right now is to be deafened as well. I just want to go home and go to bed.”
“You’ve been in the Gents for half an hour. If you’ve been doing drugs in there—”
“I’ve been taking the bloody contact lenses out!” he snapped, reaching into his pocket.
“Don’t! Stop!”
“Do you want to see them or not?” A nondescript English accent had replaced his Cockney one. “We can’t stand here all night. I’m just going to reach into my jacket pocket and show you the contact lenses, all right?”
She gave a jerky nod and watched him. Sure enough, a small blue and white contact lens case emerged.
“My eyes have been absolutely killing me all evening. It’s a complete nightmare putting them in and getting them out. You don’t wear them?”
“No,” she whispered, edging out onto the steps, still holding her personal alarm aimed at him like a gun. “Just get out.”
“I’m sorry for frightening you.” He retrieved the notebook from the floor and sauntered past her, close enough for her to see how red-rimmed his eyes were. “Good night.”
Standing at the door, she watched him cross the car park to a vehicle at the far end. It beeped once and he got in, pulling out of the space a moment later. As it crawled towards her, she could see it was a black Lexus. It was an odd choice for someone who looked like a gangster. Surely an SUV with blacked-out windows would be more his style? When the car left the car park, she slumped back against the door, fighting the urge to cry. After a few deep breaths and with the personal alarm clenched between her teeth, she eventually set the security alarm, turned out all the lights, locked the door, and fled to her Volkswagen.

Author Bio
I’ve spent many years crafting stories in my brain. Finally, after the encouragement from those that love and support me the most, I put my first story out by self-publishing in 2013.
That first milestone created a writing monster in me that couldn’t be stopped and filled a void I cannot explain. Each story is a true gift from my heart and a sacrifice from my soul, since I find it difficult to let the characters go.
At home in Texas, my husband and I share our life with children that mean the world to us and include a couple of fur babies. When we aren’t busy watching sports and betting on the game, we are entertaining with friends.
I do have a writing cave, but honestly, most of my work comes from the kitchen, the heartbeat of any home. Since noise doesn’t disturb me too much when writing, I can write and keep the pulse on the family at the same time. And… Possibly enjoy my favorite, sinful treat… Cookie dough!
The writer-reader world is my lifeline. I’m addicted and each time I get a message from a reader, I’m thrilled. There’s quite a few stories planned for the next several months. I’m hoping the readers fall in love with my next series, The Creek Series. A story that is guaranteed to bring out all the emotions.
