Colin McDermott has one last chance to get Christmas right. Since his mother abandoned him on Christmas Eve never to return, Colin McDermott has hated Christmas and sworn never to have children. But this year two angels are giving him everything he didn't want. A Santa suit, a child and a chance at love again. This is his last chance to learn the true meaning of Christmas.

Excerpt:
“His soul is mine,” Devon, the devil's angel, said. He watched the humans, who were oblivious to his presence, gathered in the sales office. One of the best things about being an angel was his ability to pop into just about anywhere and spy on his subjects without their knowledge. He could observe the humans as if were watching a play and even occasionally act as director.

A chill wind howled outside the downtown Denver office, heralding the arrival of winter and the holiday season. The perfect time of year to increase his soul count. Devon studied his next soul, a brown-haired young man with expressive brows and a quirky grin. Unbeknownst to him, the salesman's life meter was about to expire unless he made drastic changes.

Devon," a voice echoed into the atmosphere before the being that irritated him the most shimmered into his vision. “Doing a soul count before he's yours?”

Slowly, an angel materialized, clad from head to toe in a white leather jacket and white knee-high boots fit snug over white leather pants. A gold belt around her waist, held a cross that signified sergeant, angel, first class. Her halo was tilted at a rakish angle. In earth terms, Gabriella looked hot.

“Whoever is in charge of your wardrobe, I like the changes they’ve made,” Devon said, letting his eyes rake her until a searing heat reminded him he was crossing boundaries. "Please tell me they ditched the boring robes."

With a toss of her blonde hair, her blue eyes flashed, glinting silver as her brows rose.

“My robes are hardly boring, but no, one of my cases is a motorcyclist. I'm riding shotgun today, trying to keep him from splattering all over the highway. The robes kept blowing up in my face, so I found a solution.”

"Nice!" Devon shook his head and forced his eyes back to the human whose life he'd soon influence. “I thought your promotion at Easter took you out of the saving souls division.”

Gabriella smiled as the air around her shimmered. Why didn’t the angels from purgatory patrol get that shimmery essence?

Devon, we work so…well together” she said, drawing out the word until he wanted to snap at her. He held onto his temper.

“We're all looking for ways to make quota this time of year. Only the strongest stay out of the pit, and every time I come up against you, I lose. But not this time. This one belongs to me,” he announced, staring at the man whose only interest in life was making money. No family, no girlfriends, no friends— just work and money.

Gabriella tsked. “Now why would you want to send this poor man to hell for eternity? He just needs a little coaxing to choose the right path.”

Devon sighed. “His time is about to expire. I'm here to collect his soul.”

“Maybe,” she said. “Unless, I can give him some guidance and save him from evil.”

“Not this time. Heavenly angels may not be able to play dirty, but I can,” he said, smiling at Gabriella. “And I intend to win this one.” Gabriella laughed.

"Always so arrogant, Devon." She glanced at their human. “His case is challenging, but I'm certain I can help him.”

She turned toward Devon, her brows rising. “Playing dirty landed you where you are now. Why should I expect anything less?”

“How I got here doesn’t matter. I need this soul,” he snapped. "You make your soul count or the big man sends you back to the pit to fight and claw your way back for another chance."

“And Colin McDermott needs to be saved,” Gabriella said, swirling back to their subject. “I mean, look at the poor man. He has no idea his priorities are in the wrong place. He's a selfish, greedy man because he's unloved."

“Love!" Devon exclaimed. "You heavenly angels think loving someone solves everything.”

Gabriella shook her head at Devon, her blue eyes darkening with some sort of power. “Even you deserved love, Devon. In fact, if I had been your angel, I would found someone to show you love. Hopefully, you'd have been smart enough to grab the lifeline."

“Well, you weren't my angel, and now I'm the big man's soul catcher.”

“It's simple, Devon. Why would you want to lure more men into the darkness you already face?” she asked.

Devon clenched his fist, struggling to control the frustration that spiraled through him. Hell was not a place anyone planned on going. “The pit!" he said. "Let’s just concentrate on the human.”

"I already was." She contemplated Colin McDermott. “He's quite handsome with those long, sandy lashes and sparkling honey eyes. If I were human, one look and he’d melt my heart.”

“Women on earth know he's not a good risk. I could wrap this case up before Christmas, if you weren't here."

“Too bad. I'm here to keep you from destroying him,” she said, giving him a stern frown. “The poor soul has no idea of what he's about to face. I'm sure you’ve got some nasty surprises in store for him, some hard to resist temptations. But hopefully, with my guidance, he'll make the changes his life needs.”

Devon shook his head. “No, by Christmas he’ll be mine. Count on it."

The Lambsridge Wolves is the new mystery / thriller with a supernatural twist. My 5 Star Review

The Lambsridge Wolves is the new mystery / thriller with a supernatural twist.  Author Chrissie Parkes took inspiration from encounters with real wolves to weave a story where the reality of Hazel’s secondary school life is threatened by the strange traditions of her tiny, rural village deep in the Welsh valleys...

The Lambsridge Wolves:  Prologue:  Let Me In

The girl stares at the church door, unsure how she has ended up in this place.  Above, the clear night sky is black as fear, while pale mist curls between the trees, low and sinister.  It snakes around her ankles, as if to pull her back into the darkness from which they are coming.  Shivering, she dare not look behind in case a terrifying sight snatches the ability to move from her pale limbs.  She must get through the door before they catch up but it is locked, a heavy wooden barrier refusing to open.
The rule drifts across her memory; don’t open the door, never open the door.  Now she understands why – that and the reason for the deep scratches around the edges of the timbers.  Fresh ones will join them soon and they will be hers, despite the futility.  But still a fire roars inside her, desperate and urgent; let me in!  She knows her attempts will fail and soon the pursuers will arrive.  The horror of the scene that will follow threatens to suck the remaining life from her bones.
Then she hears them, sounds filtering from between the dense trees with their sharp, snagging branches.  Tiny trickles of blood itch her arms and legs, bare in the fragile moonlight, and she realises the scent of blood is probably attracting them.  The inhuman noises grow louder and more urgent before a single, hideous howl echoes through the trees.
They have found her.  She stares numbly at her hands, shocked to see blood under her fingernails, proof of her attempts to breach the door, somehow lost in the confusion of panic.
Clouds gather overhead to hide the awful truth of what is to come.  Turning slowly, the girl’s mind empties as she prepares for their arrival.

Hazel’s family history is firmly rooted in the tiny, rural village of Lambsridge, deep in the Welsh valleys.  She dreams of a life of excitement and fun in the outside world, but when the old traditions begin to threaten the lives of her family she can no longer deny the dark and menacing danger waiting for her in the woods at the top of the hill.
It’s called ‘The Reservation’ – a place where wolves roam wild behind a secure wire fence.  Shunned by the town kids and bullied at school, Hazel desperately tries to uncover the secrets lurking within and save her family.  But will she get to the truth before it destroys them all?

Author info
Chrissie Parkes writes real stories for young adults.   Inspirations come from nature, families and, of course, wolves.  Living in the south of England, Chrissie spends as much time writing as possible, given the demands of teaching a class of Year 3 children and walking two not-very-wolf-like West Highland Terriers.
Even though you think you can spot them, wolves are masters of disguise.   They use stealth and camouflage to pass undetected through our world.  Although they choose to avoid humans at all costs, beware. Sometimes they take an interest in one or two special humans.
Then, before you know it, it's too late to stop them...

Writing the book – inspired by real wolves! When I was writing The Lambsridge wolves, I took inspiration from the magnificent wolves at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust.Based outside of Reading, Berkshire, the organisation looks after several packs of wolves.  I was lucky enough to 'walk with the wolves' and meet some of these amazing animals.  If in some way, my book can help raise awareness or interest people to find out more about the true nature of these amazing animals, I would feel so ecstatic!  Why not visit the UKWCT website at http://ukwct.org.uk/.  I’m sure there are others around the world and on the web.  If you find one, let me know. At UKWCT you can watch videos, read and learn about the reality of wolf survival. Be truly inspired.  I was!

My 5 Star Review

Although not the typical genre I would read I really enjoyed this teenage supernatural story. The suspense filled mystery build up from page one until the end with the possibility of a follow up.

I met Chrissie Parkes through Bookblogs when she requested reviewers for this book. The blurb on Smashwords intrigued me and I mailed her.

We met a twelve year old that for the duration of the book seemed more like a twenty something young woman. Her circumstances forced her to be mature, thinking like a grown up to protect her family. Her clear objectives and thoughtful observations struck you from the get go and a few times I had to make sure that it was infact a twelve year old girl's view.
The grown ups, especially the mother with her tantrum filled personality really annoyed me. It seems her way of conversation was to scream, frankly that just do not "gel" with me. She knew the answers to all the frightful things going on in the village but instead of being subtle and protecting her children added to the fear and worries of Jed, Hazel and Molly.
The absent father quivered away not taking up the responsibility of fatherhood and is easily manipulated and threatened. While he knew what his children were facing.
Trapped in a world of secrets young Hazel is faced with normal teenage growing pains, fitting into a world she does not belong. Joining the Running Club to protect a friend she makes more enemies then friends. Her young friends trying to protect her while she tries to understand what is going on in her family life and why her family is falling apart.
While the wolves is kept in the back ground, caged in a reservation and kept at a distance with no idea why they are so important to her or the "Lambers" the village she lives in, set apart from the rest of the world. The unusual church life the center of this village that borders on cults, over protective of their secrets and way of life allowing no outsiders in.
Since no grown up is willing to be honest she has to find her own answers that lead her into trouble each time. Her contact with the wolves the high light of the story, drawing you in and keep your intention to the very last page.
A very good clean read for teenagers that loves mystery and the supernatural world of wolves. This is not the typical shapeshifters stories but the plot will keep you wondering till the very end. The author does not give anything away and then still you are left with questions.
Well done Chrissie Parkes.

Here among us, A debut Novel by Maggie Harryman: My review

Today I introduce Maggie Harryman with her new novel: Here among us

                  Here Among Us
                   By Maggie Harryman
                 Print Length: 304 pages
Publisher: Straight On True (October 1, 2012)
                   Genre: Literary Fiction

          Website: www.maggieharryman.com

Book Synopsis:

When unemployed San Francisco attorney, Flynn O’Shea, and her teenaged daughter, Didi, are summoned to New Jersey for the Thanksgiving holiday by Flynn’s socialite sister, Maeve, she expects a fight.

After all, she has been battling Maeve most of her life. Disagreeing about the extent of their Irish mother’s creeping dementia and the fate of the family’s thriving restaurant business, named for their beloved, long dead father, Paddy, is surely a recipe for a world-class brawl.

What Flynn doesn't expect is the fragile truce the sisters forge to save O’Shea’s from the clutches of Maeve’s scheming husband, Jeffrey. Flynn and Maeve are reluctantly aided by their forty-four-year-old brother, Osheen, a handsome Peter Pan still cruising the Jersey shore, getting high and dodging responsibility.

And while Didi tries to convince her mother that “everything is as it should be,” just when Flynn is sure she’s gained the upper hand on Jeffrey, her own mother’s shocking confession sends her into a wine-soaked tailspin and forces her to deal once and for all with the ghosts of her past. Devastated, Flynn must choose to save O’Shea’s or risk losing forever all she has left of her father.

In Here Among Us, the O’Sheas find themselves dealing with the very timely issue of Alzheimer’s, a disease that strips the victim's identity and wreaks havoc on the family left to pick up the pieces. But Flynn, Osheen and Maeve’s troubles began long before their mother started to “slip.” For the O’Sheas, much of their shared angst is rooted in the single most devastating event of their lives—the death of their father when they were young children. The novel explores not only how deep wounds can seem impossible to heal, but how refusing to let go of the stories the O'Sheas desperately cling to about who they are, threatens to hasten their demise.

My 5 Star review

Set in New Jersey this Irish American Family owned a pub. Three to be exact, started by their father, a boxing legend in his own right. His footsteps printed deep into their lives and thoughts evident all through the story.
We are introduced to Flynn the youngest of the siblings, unemployed living in San Francisco and her sixteen year old daughter, Didi. The eldest sister Maeve, socialite. And Osheen the middle sibling, brother and the one who runs the main pub.
Oona the mother who is struggling with her forgetting past, not willing to admit the evidence of Alzheimer. Trying to understand the world around her. In her own way she tries to set things right between the always arguing siblings. Who did not trust each other at all, but as the story unfolds you get a sense of love and protectiveness towards each other.
You are drawn into the emotional roller coaster of the three as they try to make sense of their heritage, the untimely death of their father and their current lives.
Osheen was afraid of commitment not willing to realize that his best chances in a relationship was right before him. Stepping up as a protector for his sisters, niece and nephew.
Maeve, married to a abusive, drug addict that wants all control of the business. The empire Oona has build after Paddy's death. Finding her self in a lesbian relationship with a woman she loves and adores.
Flynn, a sport attorney who lost her work after the company down sized, divorced finding she still have feelings for a man, now cop and just written his bar exam Micheal. The blossoming romance a nice touch through all the turmoil they faced during the five day weekend of Thanksgiving.
You learn through all the back flashes of the three what made this family who they were. As secrets is revealed and the three is forced to work together against the husband you find that the Father Paddy looked a head and equipped them with survival skills. Even after his death his lessons saved them on many occasions. It was only this late in life that they realized it.

Overall a very good read with all its intriguing details, colorfully set to give you and overall feeling of accomplishment as the two old lovers come together, finding each other after all the years of confusion and loss. The author kept the pace alive and vivid so that it did not bore you with all the details. The characters strong and believable as they grow into understanding of each role they live.

Conversations of a Watchman My Thoughts and Review

About the Book

How does a person move from a place deficient of light?  How can an individual shift from a place of complete and utter chaos, obscurity, apathy, and adversity?  The pathway to transformation is through in-depth conversations with the One True God of Creation–El·ō·hēm'.  For you to move to a place of prophetic providence, your conversation must be divinely inspired.  Hebrews 11:3 states: “The worlds were framed by the Word of God.”  Framing begins with an idea, expands as a result of the imagination, and gives life through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit through divine utterance for a specific purpose.  Declaring the Word of God releases the creative power of God for authentic transformation.
K. E. Allen designed this book to draw you into a deeper conversation with the Father to renew your prayer life, mend your brokenness, enlighten your pathway, and arrange your chaos according to the divine order of God. This resource will help you exercise your kingly and priestly authority and impose kingdom mandates to release God’s original intent in your life, family, community, city, region, and nation.  It will encourage you to frame your prophetic destiny.

Through the extraordinary gift of intercession and pure worship, she has become a spiritual weapon in the hand of the Lord whose knowledge is relevant for the church today. She is a dynamic leader, extravagant worshiper and prophetic intercessor whose worship has become a definitive lifestyle that penetrates and permeates every facet of her life and the lives of those she touches.  Karla is a leader to leaders and lives a life of committed consistent intercession, giving selflessly of herself in her prayer closet.  For over 20 years, as a student and teacher of the Word and woman of faith, she implements the truth of the Bible through the dynamics of intercession and worship that releases a tangible anointing.  Knowing firsthand the transformative power of God in her own life, she is determined to see others healed, delivered and set free. AUTHOR INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

Tell us about yourself?

I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA.  I have a strong legacy of women and men of God that have impacted my life.  But, the person who has had the greatest influence on my life is my grandmother, Mary Williams.  She was a strong woman of faith and prayer.  In a denomination where female preachers were not accepted, one could always find her preaching, teaching, and hosting meetings/shut-ins where people would be filled with the Holy Spirit and demons were cast out. In fact, I have her ordination papers that she kept hidden under her bed.  Why do I tell you about my grandmother when you ask about me?  Because if it wasn’t for her courage and strength I would not be who I am.  I watched her life until the day of her passing and as an adult, it is my desire to emulate her life.  As she was a woman of wisdom and grace, so am I.  Who am I?  Inside of me is a strong inheritance of prayer, faith, and a full life in Christ Jesus-all passed down to me by my grandmother, my grandfather, and my parents.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

By far, the most difficult aspect of writing this book was the editing process.

Did you have to do any special research for this book?

When one writes about principles pertaining to the Bible, there is always extensive research and study involved so as to ensure accuracy.

Why do you write? Is it something you have always done or always wanted to do? Or is it something you started fairly recently?

I write because it is a passion I enjoy.  As far as I can remember, I have always loved to write.  As a young child I wrote fiction stories all the time.  In my teenage years, I wrote poetry and by the time was in college I started writing songs.   So, writing, in some form, has always been a part of my life.

How did you feel when you received the first copy of your book?

It was a surreal moment.  Being able to hold what God had given me in my hands literally overwhelmed me.  My heart was filled with so much gratitude towards God and all the people that had help my God-given dream become a reality.

My Thoughts, Review
A Practical Handbook for intercession, every day prayer and the fulfilling of a watchman call.
Prayer is not a ministry but a life long quest to get closer to the Heart of Abba Father. To find His will and do it in a dark world with no answers we face on a daily basis.
To know His heart is possible when you spend time with Him in your secret place. God is practical, giving us practical solutions if we are willing to be the watchman for His Light and Truth.
During these times of isolation God lay it on our hearts to pray specifically for some one, some things, a business, a country, a group of people. This is when you become the watchman on the wall, interceding, standing in the gap for those who are fighting a battle that is hard and difficult. We all need people like that in our life for when the battle is tough some one will be strong, lifting your arms in the battle so that you can have that victory you long for.
This comes clear in the workbook from K.E Allen. Helping you to practice it as the Word guides you and gives you strength.
Divided in the three watches the practical work sheets in a devotional every day setting equips you to pray with devotion and accuracy. It helps your growth in the spiritual and prayer life. Touching God's heart for a dying world. To know, hear and listen the Father's voice and act upon it in authority. From living a contrite life and mending the breaches we face.
It will help you repositioning your self, declaring a open heaven in your life to have a crystal clear vision of God's heart for you and His people entrusted to you. Praying for provision in your daily life.
Being more accurate in your asking like asking for a godly husband/wife in the image of Christ.
It will draw you closer to a more intimate relationship with the Father, knowing his heart, mind and thoughts.
Powerful scriptures that is set in prayer to start teaching you how to pray effectively.

  • Prophetic utterance and direct input from the Father.
  • Declarations over your Country, county and standing in the gap for breakthrough. With spiritual discernment
  • Declaring His Word and Truth directly into the lives of those effected.
  • Declaring victory, pulling down of strong holds.
