There’s no best-by date for revenge.

Wealthy and beautiful Shay Lassiter runs a prestigious foundation, but her connections and resources were worthless when her fiancĂ© tried to murder her. Now, she’s guarding her heart and using her knack for reading people’s intentions – both good and evil – to guide her. But when the foundation’s clients start dying, she must turn to the new man in her life…one who’s giving her mixed signals.

Computer specialist and ex-cop Roman Chandler has a secret. It involves Shay and could ruin the fragile relationship he’s building with her. Though he can’t tell her the truth, he needs to convince her to trust him. He fears that whoever is behind this is about to turn his vengeance on Shay…

And vengeance can be deadly.

Excerpt:
Under Roman's midnight blue gaze, Shay's stomach churned with unanswered questions and delight. Of course he'd seen pictures of her. A quick Google search would have offered many pages to study. She wanted to take a longer look at his energy, but thought she’d better save her strength for when a deeper reading might be needed.

A strange sound had her turning to face Bernice.

Bernice opened her mouth to speak when she suddenly stopped, an odd look on her face. Her breath sucked in so loudly, Shay leaned closer in concern. "Bernice? What's the matter?"

Silence.

Shay studied her old friend, but Bernice's face had turned ashen, her eyes locked on something behind Shay’s shoulder. Shay spun around, but there didn't appear to be anything or anyone there. In fact, the only thing behind her was a wall. A blank wall.

"Bernice, talk to me. You're scaring me."

Bernice's breathing appeared halted, her features frozen.

Shay leaned closer.

Jesus, she must be having a stroke. "We'll get someone here to help you. Just please tell me what's wrong."

Bernice's mouth worked. Still no sound came out."

Roman bent to peer into Bernice's face. "I'll get help." Roman took off.

Shay didn't bother to watch him go, her gaze was locked on poor Bernice. As Shay raised her hand to call for help, her arm was grabbed. She stared, surprised to see Bernice's bronzed nails cutting into her soft skin.

"Bernice?" Shay peered inside her friend's dark, blind eyes. "Hang on. Help is coming."

Somewhere behind her, she could hear rapidly approaching footsteps. Thank God.

Shay stared into Bernice's blank, black and bottomless eyes, and Bernice stared back. Shay's heart squeezed in fear. "Bernice, damn it, are you in there? Please answer me."

Shay willed Bernice's eyes to return to normal. Willed them to blink. To move. To do something.

Then something happened. Inside, deep inside, Bernice blinked. A clear movement that Shay could see and understand.

Except for one thing.

On the surface, Bernice's eyelids never moved.

My 5 Star Review

I have received the book from the touring host for an honest review.
This is my fourth book for the author and my first adult book from her, and she did not disappoint. The plot was well layered with suspense as people started to die for no apparent reason other than natural causes.
The characters were interesting and believable as the story unfolds, and soon you are glued to the pages as you learn more about the psyche world and the dangers it can cause. As with everything in life, this too can be used for good or evil, with revenge the main subject of the plot.
We meet Shay Lassiter and her ghost pet Morris right from the start, trapped in a dangerous situation with her fiancĂ© Darren. At the end, this man left her vulnerable and with many trust issues, and it took her a year to get over his unnatural death. Vowing to never trust again.
We meet Roman Chandler, trusted friend on mails, but when they met in person, it was a whole different story. Secrets and trust the central theme between the two as they found themselves in the midst of strange deaths and even stranger circumstances. Trying to figure out the why’s and how’s.
Her good friend Stefan Kronos, is the person that keeps her grounded, allowing her to explore more of her feelings towards Roman, and her own abilities as a psyche. He was her voice of reason, strong, capable and always willing to help. The friendship beautifully illustrated throughout the book.
Pappy or Charles, beloved grandfather and friend, became a play ball in the hands of our killer. His quiet persona and support a continuous strength in her life. He was her past and present all wrapped up in one. His love for Bernice is a touching story of love that never dies, even after death.
Bernice, beloved friend, surrogate mother and mentor died in her arms, when her last breath was relinquished Shay saw something in her eyes that startled her, and she knew she that this was not a typical killer they were dealing with. But to proof it was where all the trouble begins.
The rest of the supporting characters were well defined, unique in their own roles as the various scenes played out.
With psyche abilities, astral projection and becoming one with the universe, it was interesting that the essences of the story were always “Love conquers all.” A great read, well written with enough passion to fill the pages as the killer sow havoc in this woman’s life and her blooming love for a man she hope she can trust more than life itself. Suspense filled with enough drama to keep the pages turning as Shay and Roman find each other.
Who was the killer? Well it came as a huge surprise, I will recommend buying the book, and you will know. J
